About ICAC Textiles

The global textile trade has undergone remarkable growth over the years, surging from $482 billion in 2004 to $882 billion in 2023. By 2022, this figure had reached an impressive $958 billion. ICAC member countries have a pivotal role in this expansion, contributing 55% of the world’s GDP and providing employment to over 1.5 billion people. These nations are prominent players in the global textile value chain, accounting for 47% of textile exports ($452 billion) and 58% of textile imports ($550 billion), cementing their position as key suppliers and consumers.

Recognizing the need to adapt to evolving trade dynamics, environmental sustainability, and the rising prominence of synthetic materials, the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) has broadened its mission. Originally focused on cotton, this intergovernmental organization—representing 24 member countries, including the European Union—now addresses the entire textile value chain. ICAC Textiles has emerged as a global hub, uniting governments, industry leaders, researchers, and investors to foster innovation, develop sustainable policies, and boost competitiveness across the sector.
